Has both combustion and electric motors like the full hybrid, but they can’t be used independently of one another. The small electric motor exists solely to assist the combustion engine.

As the name suggests, the electric battery in a PHEV can be plugged in to charge. PHEVs carry a larger battery, bringing them closer to the fully electric kind. If you only do short-ish journeys and charge your PHEV overnight, you’ll rarely, if ever, use the ICE engine.
