EV & Hybrid Battery Maintenance

Think of your EV/hybrid battery as a bit like a laptop or smartphone battery when it comes to looking after it well, and giving it the longest life possible.

That said, electric/hybrid battery packs are designed to last much longer than a smartphone battery – 15 to 20 years, in fact. In most cases, your battery should require very little maintenance.

To preserve your battery, it’s best not to charge it to more than 80%, or let it drain to less than 25%. A full charge to 100% is OK on rare occasions if you need the range of a full charge. Newer EVs and hybrids have a setting to restrict the charge to a certain percentage to help you preserve battery life.

There are three levels of charging for EV/hybrid car batteries: Levels 1, 2, & 3. Level 3 is considered to be “fast charging” and is typically what you will find in supermarkets or fuel stations when you want to recharge quickly in the middle of a journey. It is best to mostly charge your battery on levels 1 or 2, at home, overnight.

At Electric Vehicle Service Centre we have a team of EV/hybrid experts who are always happy to advise on any aspect of maintenance or repair of your EV or hybrid vehicle, including the battery.
